Sowing seeds in the fall to allow for cold stratification: This is how I’m doing it this year. The weather has warmed up a bit last week. Armed with new potting soil recipes for plants native to this region, I’d mixed and filled up a whole bunch of potting pots with the mixture. I made […]
First Snow / End of the Season
It’s that time of the year when things slow down. We’ve just had our First Snow of the 2024-2025 Winter Season. Happy Halloween. We move indoors, sort thru the saved seeds and label the dried herbs. Pull out my favorite tincture recipes, and make plans for cold stratification of native wildflower seeds.
Harvesting & Drying
Calendula. Easy to grow. Harvest, and dry.
Raspberries & Blackberries!
What a bumper crop of raspberries we had in July, and now the blackberries are starting!
Dividing, Multiplying, & Harvesting
Wow it’s hot! Summer’s perhaps arriving sooner than expected. Lots of dividing & multiplying. Lots of weeding too. My potting benches are overfull of propagating attempts. Not all make it but so many impressively do and I’m as pleased as Punch can be. Harvesting’s begun too — for nettles, lemon balm, hyssop, comfrey, mugwort, sage, […]
Rerouting New Paths!
Yay Spring! It’s finally warm enough to begin cutting back last year’s growth and observing new ones. And with new growth, garden paths are migrating! It’s always fun trying to decide where to reroute paths in anticipation of this year’s growing.
Cold-Stratification & Kombucha Brews
It’s still cold, so I think we’ll sow yet more seeds to cold-stratify in time for spring flowers. Outside, there’s rutting deer & busy birdbaths. Inside, we’re putting up tinctures and talking about how we get our Kombucha brews going. Need a SCOBY to get started?
Fall/Winter 2023
It’s gotten cold. We’ve had some snow. The garden’s pretty much gone to bed. Only a little- that should’ve been done by the season’s end – is left to do. Cold-stratify next spring’s seeds. Protect young plants from cold winter and hungry wildlife. Tidy everything back into place. The herbs are dried and waiting to be […]
Fall 2023
We’re still busy, busy, busy in the garden. Digging and dividing bulbs. Harvesting & drying herbs. Processing the produce. Collecting & saving seeds. Putting up tinctures. Garden projects of all kinds.
Summer 2023
We’re just busy, busy, busy in the garden. Finding baby milkweed underneath taller plants. Harvesting & drying herbs. Garden projects of all kinds.
